The 2009 Sustainability Report, “Now, for the future,”is designed to provide a general overview of our sustainability strategy and update our progress during our fiscal 2009 (July 2008 - June 2009). All information and data provided represents our global operations with specific examples attributed to individual locations and business units. We have chosen to report summary information beginning with fiscal 2005, which was the beginning of Sara Lee’s five-year transformation.  The information presented was collected as part of our business operations subject to internal controls and verification by subject matter experts to ensure that this report fairly represents our sustainability activities, strategies, policies, programs and initiatives. Metrics reported have been validated by Sara Lee’s Internal Audit group.

Sara Lee Corporation has addressed key performance indicators identified by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G3 Sustainability Reporting Guidelines throughout this report.  The content index shows the specific location of the information responsive to the GRI performance indicators that are addressed in the Sustainability Report, Sara Lee Corporation’s Annual Report to Shareholders, the 2009 Proxy Statement or Sara Lee’s Web site.
