Sara Lee stresses energy balance, which takes into account calorie intake and calorie output through physical activity. The Sara Lee Foundation supports healthy and active lifestyle initiatives that encourage nutrition education, healthy food choices and regular physical activity. More than 30 percent of last year’s grants from the Sara Lee Foundation focused on healthy lifestyle initiatives.
The Healthy Lifestyles Program of the Association House of Chicago meets a critical need in a diverse Chicagoland community through cultural and age-relevant programs, community workshops and events that increase healthy life choices, physical activity and nutrition education. In the past year, 87 percent of participants increased their knowledge about health-related topics and 85 percent reported an increase in healthy food choices and physical activities.
Sara Lee is committed to the health and well-being of employees and their families. Through health benefit plans, coverage is provided for preventative health screenings, and online and telephonic educational and health management tools and coaching. Many Sara Lee locations throughout North America have launched programs and challenges designed to help our employees lead healthier lives
Weight Watchers programs are offered onsite, online or through local meetings and are reimbursed at 100 percent for salaried and non-union hourly employees. Since June 2007, participants across Sara Lee have lost nearly 8,000 pounds.
